Design Tip: For a Productive Office

A good office environment ensures maximum productivity. Although there are some key rules that should be followed, they can be adapted and changed according to personal specifications. These tips will help you in setting up a productive office almost anywhere.

1. It is very important to have a comfortable chair that does not strain your back and an appropriate desk or table to accompany it.

2. Place your work station in a comfortable and airy area that has good natural lighting. Having a lamp on your desk top could help in reducing the strain on your eyes. Make sure that the place is not humid and gloomy since working under such conditions will not only hamper your productivity but also harm your electronic equipment.

3. Keep a paper, pens and pencils and erasers handy. Stumbling around for something to write on or something to write with will waste time as well as thought.

4. Try placing some nice art that is pleasing to you to keep your spirits high. Gloomy and dark abstract designs tend to have an adverse effect on the mind and discourage creativity.

5. Try to keep files and other work related papers are kept near the work station so they are close at hand. If you have to walk around the around in order to gather your files, you not only waste time but risk getting distracted and off task.

Feng Shui Tip: Career Success

The career life area is located in the North sector of the home. Find the north area of the home for all levels in your home. Next, find the north sector in your office or the place where you do activities related to your career.

Clean the career area and remove clutter. Even clutter in the career area of the basement can have an effect. All areas of the home have an influence on your career.
The career colors are blue and black. You can accent areas with these colors in the form of art, accessories and/or paint.

The best pictures would depict your career. A doctor might choose a Norman Rockwell black and white photo of the child waiting for the doctor. A business man might select a photo of a fishing boat filled with fish to represent their clients. A teacher may enjoy a print with children. Most importantly, the art needs to speak to you.
The shape for your career area is wavy, similar to ocean waves. Look for undulating lines that are soft and not structured in your art and accessories. Fabrics can be used for this cure.

Let’s say you want a new job or want to find a new direction in life. You could simply place an item in this part of your home that either has water in it (like an aquarium or vase with flowers), or use a symbol of water (like a painting of a stream or river, or a collection of sea shells from a beach vacation). Or, you could use some Feng Shui symbols of water which include the color black and mirrors.

When you add an item, do it consciously with the intention that you are placing it there to help you with your new direction. If you add the intention, you’ll be amazed how much faster it works!

The front door is also usually associated with career and life path. Check your door and see what shape it is in. If it sticks, you may be stuck in your job. If it is never used, you may feel overlooked at work. If it is dusty and dirty, you may never have the chance to shine in your career. Take care of your front door and you may find yourself happier in your career and life path. Also make sure nothing is blocking the door. Allow the door to open completely, with no sticking or squeaks. Blocked and sticky doors reduce the ch’i that can enter the home. For career and life path enhancement, you want as much positive energy as possible!

Design Tip: Colors

One of the best design tools is a wash or splash of color. But how do you pick the right color for the room? Colors play a major role in your life and color choices throughout your home and office will influence your mood, so be mindful about your color choices.

Whites and Neutrals: These hues project purity, cleanliness, and neutrality. Whites add to your mental clarity, encourage us to clear clutter or obstacles, purify thoughts or actions and evoke a feeling of fresh beginnings.

Yellows: What is the first thing you think of that’s yellow — the sun, of course. Yellow is powerful color that suggests warmth, richness and happiness. Yellows in the right doses can make you feel happy or give you more energy.

Reds: Even more powerful than yellows are the reds. We associate red with love, danger, desire, speed, strength, and even stop signs. It is considered the first color that is recognized by human eye and this color promotes alertness, increases vitality, increases strength, and stimulates conversation. Ideal for dining rooms and kitchens, a dash of red as an accent can spice up other rooms as well.

Greens: A fresh color to use in almost any room. It represents nature, environment, health, good luck, youth and fertility and is associated with a healing force, nature and growth. You can use green almost anywhere, as long as it is the right shade.

Blues: Considered a universal color, it represents peace, tranquility, stability, trust, confidence, security, loyalty, sky, water, cold, technology, and even depression. Blue can slow the pulse rate, lower body temperature, and reduce appetite. Blue is known for its calming effect and should be used in any room you would like to promote tranquility and peace, like a bedroom.

Browns: Representing earth and steadiness, many people’s first association with brown is chocolate, which symbolizes smoothness and luxury. Brown tends to make us feel luxurious, elegant, comforted, earthy, wiser, and stronger. If you need a touch of sophistication in a room, brown may be just what you need.

Feng Shui: Tips for a Good New Year

Arrange furniture – analyze whether the furnishings are relevant to the area and whether people can flow through the room without running into anything. Ask yourself if you really need it in the room or if it would better fit into elsewhere.

Clean up – cleaning up can help improve chi or positive energy. Chi can’t come through when there’s dirt and clutter everywhere. This does not apply only to your home. You should neutralize the negative energy in your life and job. This can also include people, bad habits and anything that could potentially make your “chi” stale and slow.

If you’re around negative people, of course you may not be able to get away from some of these individuals. If at all possible, you should try to minimize the amount of time spent with people who make you tired, depressed, angry, and suppresses your new opportunities. Instead, welcome new friends and opportunities.

Bad habits die hard. However, while working on your home to improve it, you should also improve yourself. Whatever your faults are, you should at least make an attempt to improve yourself. Ask, what can make your chi stale and slow? Work on issues in your life that increase stress, create fights, and make it difficult for you to get a good night’s sleep. Select one or two bad habits and start by trying to limit the time you spend doing them. Over time, you will find you might be able to eliminate them entirely.
